Birding Safaris

Aptly described as the "Pearl of Africa", Uganda is arguably the richest country in Africa for birds, in terms of its size, and perhaps one of the finest destinations for primates. Visits to some well preserved tropical forests may reward one with Mountain Gorilla, Chimpanzee, Black and White and Red Colobus Monkey, Grey Cheeked Mangabey, Patas, Red tailed and l'Hoests Moneky.

Ross' and Great Blue Touracos, Shoebill, Grasshopper Buzzard and some of the 29 Albertine Rift endemics are some of the birds we hope to encounter.

Tanzania is also a birders paradise - a combination trips of Uganda and Tanzania especially for birders can easily be arranged.

These trips are of necessity tailormade - we run regular trips with qualified ornithologists, but can design trips to suit your time frame and particular desires, even if it is just a short trip to "tick off" a Shoebill.

Shoebill in Uganda!

Our guides in Uganda are good field birders, and through experience can normally pick up the specials such as Shoebill, Payrus Gonolek, Ross' Loerie, etc.

Should you require this type of safari, please contact us so we can suggest some of our regular routes, with or without a specialists ornithologist. The beauty of our style of operation is that you can camp in comfort in some of the best birding areas, many of which are hours away from hotels/lodges, so your birding time is not taken up accessing an area.

Special trips into Democratic Republic of Congo, to search for specials such as Congo Peacock, are planned subject to the security situation being resolved.

Ssesse Island Boat Trips and birdwatching

We offer overnight trips fo various places on the Ssese Island. These islands are one of Uganda's greatest undiscovered treasures. They are largely uninhabited and provide a relaxing environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city - only 1 hour by boat from the mainland! There are excellent fishing opportunities, beautiful sandy beaches, safe and secluded swimming areas and forest walks for viewing wildlife and exotic birds. Accommodation is available to suit all, ranging from log cabins besides the water, a guest house with a superb sunset view or even your own private tented camp.

Sunset Cruises for bird watching, relaxing and sundowners

Sunset cruises
We depart from Entebbe at about 4.00 pm and cruise to a local Papyrus Swamp area which is know to be inhabited by the Shoe Bill Stork & Sitatunga (rare water antelope). Sundowners & Snacks are served while enjoying the sunset and we return to Entebbe before dark. The timings of this trip can be changed to suit the client's interests - eg. Bird Watching.
