Birdlife in the area is prolific. A number of specials can be found in the dense riverine vegetation. These include African finfoot, narina trogon, wood owl and broadbilled roller. Over 330 species have been recorded in the area.
Sweet lowveld bushveld is the dominant vegetation type, supported by shallow soils. Where it is deeper it is usually saturated with sodium. This has led to the occurrence of sodic sites on the concession. In these areas, the vegetation have elevated levels of sodium, which is a great attraction to wildlife. These areas also tend to be impermeable to water, leading to the formation of wallows, which rhinos find particularly appealing.
The altitude varies between 200 and 350 metres amsl.
