The Shearwater Gold rafting adventure is aimed at providing an exclusive VIP experience for smaller groups that wish to enjoy the excitement of the mighty Zambezi River, and require extra personalised attention or have special requirements. Although more expensive than the standard rafting trip, added value is provided in the following areas:-
  • A complimentary 8 x 12 photograph of your days rafting.

  • A commemorative rafting T-SHIRT.

  • Personal drinking water on the raft.

  • Long Jon wetsuits for the colder months (June - August).

  • Guides with no less than 5 years guiding experience on the Zambezi.

  • Increased Safety cover of one safety kayaker per raft.

  • Personalised service, no more than six clients per raft and no more than two rafts per trip, unless otherwise requested.

  • Each raft will be accompanied by a professional High Sider.

  • Clients will not be required to portage any raft for the duration of the trip, this will be done by the guides.

  • A later starting time to ensure we experience a truly private Zambezi Experience.

  • A five star river side buffet lunch.

  • Clients will not be required to carry life jackets, helmets, paddles, etc when climbing thus ensuring an easier climb.

  • Clients can celebrate their achievement at the end of their day with a choice of local champagne, wine, beers and minerals accompanied with a selection of delectable snacks.

This exclusive product runs throughout the year and has a High Water and Low Water season that is totally dependent on water levels. In the event that we experience exceptionally high water levels this product may be suspended due to safety considerations.

Shearwater Gold Full Days

At High WaterThis trip commences at rapid #11 and finishes at rapid #24 (a distance of approximately 15kms). Clients return to Victoria Falls town at approximately 5pm.
At Low WaterThis trip commences at rapid #4 and finishes at rapid #19 (a distance of approximately 23kms). Clients return to Victoria Falls town at approximately 5pm.

Shearwater Gold Half Days

These products run during the Low Water season only, approximately August to January, and clients have the option of participating either in the top section (rapids # 4 to # 11 a distance of about 12km) or the bottom section (rapids # 11 to # 19 a distance of about 11km)

Check-In

This can be arranged at a venue of your choice so as to suit your requirements.

Briefing

This will be conducted at the Quartermains Bar in the new Kingdom Resort, Victoria Falls the evening before the day of travel at 6pm. The briefing will cover the following points:-
  • Introduction of the guide.

  • Gorge History.

  • Formation of the Falls and it's geology.

  • Conditions of the river and rapids.

  • The grading systems of the rapids.

  • Lunch.

  • The climb in and out of the gorge.

  • Medical conditions of clients. Diabetics and asthmatics should have own medication.

  • Suitable clothing.

  • Groups wishing to raft in the same boat.

  • What to do with valuables.

  • Airport transfers.

Safety Talk

A comprehensive safety briefing will be given once on the raft.

Lunch

Clients can enjoy a five star sit down lunch on the banks of the Mighty Zambezi consisting of a wide selection of cold meats and salads in the warmer months (September - April). In the cooler months (June - August) a hot lunch will be served. This will consist of a beef or chicken stew, rice and a selection of fresh vegetables. As a light dessert, a seasonal fruit salad will be served. Orange juice, teas and coffee will also be served. Special dietary requirements such as vegetarians will also be catered for upon request.

Booking Restrictions

Shearwater requires a minimum of 4 passengers before a trip can be confirmed.

Walk-In / Walk-Out

The walk in and out of the gorge is steep and rocky. The walk-out is the equivalent of climbing a 70 story building. Porters will carry all rafting equipment. There are plenty of places to rest on the way up and there is a refreshment stop at the half way point. At the top of the gorge ice cold local beers, champagne, wine, soft drinks,water and snacks are available at the end of your day.

Equipment

All Shearwater Gold clients are issued with an adjustable buoyancy aid and helmet at the beginning of the trip. String is available for tying on sunglasses and paddles are given to those rafting clients who will be "paddle boating". Long Jon wet suits are available for rafting clients during the colder months.

Guides

All Shearwater Gold guides have a minimum of 5 years rafting experience on the Zambezi. The guides hold both Advanced First Aid and Swift Water Rescue certification.
