Whitesands
Resort was voted Kenya’s Leading Resort at
the 11th World Travel Awards ceremony held
in Barbados. The event dedicated to the tremendous
contributions and achievements of the travel
industry was attended by hundreds of leaders
in the industry.
Travel Agents around the world were given
a chance to select the world’s best in the
travel industry which include hotels, resorts,
airlines and car hire through an online voting
system. Over 2.5 million voting forms were
broadcasted to over 150,000 agents and 80,000
travel agencies worldwide.
Located North of Mombasa, Whitesands is the
largest resort on the East African coast along
one of the finest beaches in the area, Bamburi
Beach.
Set in an exotic locale, the resort features
340 rooms and suites all with balconies, nestling
in 22 acres amongst palms and fragrant frangipani
trees.
A wide range of cuisine is offered in the
5 open-air restaurants and bars and themed
events have also made Whitesands a destination
of choice. They include a Kenyan evening with
warriors performing tribal rituals complete
with a Kenyan feast, a Lamu Arabic Night and
a seafood extravaganza with a Taarabu band.
For the business traveller, Whitesands is
the largest conference destination on the
Kenyan coast with a combined capacity of 900
people. The “Motivator”, a customized conferencing
solutions features state of the art presentation
and audio-visual equipment. Facilities available
in the three conference rooms namely Makutano,
Baraza and Fahari include pull-down screens,
LCD projectors, DVD, VCR, TV, laser pointers
and on-site audio-visual specialists.
In addition to team building activities at
the beach, the resort boasts of a fully-fledged
business center with computers, Internet and
personalized secretarial services.
Recreational facilities include water sports
like jet skiing and windsurfing, volleyball
and tennis back on the land.
The 2004 World Travel Awards Winners’ Magazine
was released at the 2005 ITB Berlin held from
March 11th to 15th. Nominees for the 2005
Awards to be held in London were also announced

Beach Hotel General Manager
Mohammed Hersi (right) receives the prestigious
plaque from the Hotels and Restaurants Authority
(HRA) Chair-man Zul Harunani after having
been classified as a five star hotel by the
Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.

This prime Sarova Hotels Group
property was also recently crowned 'best resort
in Kenya' in 2004.
