South Africa :: Londolozi Private Game Reserve

CC Africa’s focus: Community equity, income generation, education and health care are a primary concern. In consultation with community organisations such as the Africa Foundation – originally founded by CC Africa, now a not-for-profit rural development organisation – Londolozi has initiated many successful community empowerment projects in the Huntington and Lillydale communities surrounding the Reserve. South Africa’s former president, Nelson Mandela said, “Londolozi represents a model of the dream I cherish for the future of nature preservation in our country.” Londolozi’s ongoing development initiatives demonstrate the benefits an ecotourism operation can bring to rural communities.

LONDOLOZI COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENTS:

Building of six classrooms in the Ximhungwe circuit
Sponsoring and granting numerous bursaries
Siya Kwamukela student (sponsored by Moët & Chandon) in his second year of internship
CLEF (Community Leaders Education Fund) scholarship granted to 19 students
Edu-peg – a self-corrective early learning tool – implemented at 16 schools
HIV/AIDS awareness and education
Funding of the Satellite Clinic at Somerset Village
Ongoing conservation lessons for pupils at local junior schools
Conservation debates conducted at 10 local high schools
Toys, books, games and a security fence donated to Happy Homes pre-school
Distributing 720 Hippo Water Rollers in the Huntington community
Implementing various income generation and small business development projects, such as paper and candlemaking, compost-making, waste bottle recycling, a herb garden partnership and a pig-farming enterprise
Tracking School for community members run by Londolozi’s senior tracker, Richard Siwelo
