Azura
A visit to Azura is an experience…
The pristine beauty of the National Park surrounds you. Miles of pure white sand that squeaks underfoot. Tranquil turquoise seas, crisscrossed by local dhows plying their trade. Swaying palms, gentle breezes. Endless sunshine by day, star studded nights.

A kaleidoscope of colour greets you above and below the ocean. Magnificent reefs, home to the turtles that nest nearby. Whales, dolphins, and the elusive and protected dugong. On land, towering sand dunes give way to indigenous bush abundant with local flora and fauna. And you are welcomed by a warm and friendly people, rich in culture, for which Mozambique is rightly famous.

It’s the perfect island escape…

But a visit to Azura is about more than this. More than the exquisitely designed villas that pander to your every need, the superb cuisine, or the unsurpassed levels of service that you have come to expect.

A visit to Azura is all about you...

Find your own space within ours. Design your own days; make your time your own. Do as much as you would like, or nothing at all.

Above all relax and unwind…

Laze in the sun, or walk the miles of beach. Gaze at the dunes, or go and climb them. Swim with dolphins or learn about them. Watch the dhows sail by, or see the sun set from one. Fish for big game, or help the fishermen by eating their catch. Feel part of the environment, or help us to save it.

How you spend your time with us is your choice. Getting the small things right that will make the difference is ours.

Azura….beautiful blue.
Dress Code:
Informal by day and smart casual by night. Evenings can be a little chilly in winter (June-August) and a light sweater may be required.

Children:
Children are welcome though not explicitly catered for.

Malaria:
Mozambique is a malarial area and suitable prophylactics are advised. Government testing has found no malaria bearing mosquitoes on Benguerra island. For guest comfort, we operate pioneering MozMag machines, which eliminate biting insects within a 500 metre radius of our villas and public areas.

Weather:
The island is warm and sunny year round with temperatures averaging 25 degrees C in the winter months and closer to 35 degrees C in the summer months. Rain showers are generally restricted to the mainland, although some will occur close to the rainy season (February). Breezes are usually light. The sea temperature varies with the seasons and currents, and ranges between 24 and 29 degree C.
Azura Location:
Azura is located on Benguerra Island within the Bazaruto National Park. Benguerra Island lies 14km north east of Vilanculos, the nearest town and site of the international airport.

Co-ordinates:
21o 51’12.83”S
35o 26’ 18.79”E
Visas:
Visas are available on arrival or can be purchased in advance from your local Mozambican embassy. Not required by South African passport holders.

How To Get There:
There are daily flights from Johannesburg International airport which connect well with the major international flights to Europe. The flying time from Johannesburg is 2 hours on a 42 seat ATR aircraft.

On certain days these flights collect passengers from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, with an onward flying time of just 1 hour. This facilitates an effortless beach and bush experience.

There are also regular flights on LAM from Maputo, on Swazi Airlines connecting with Matshapa and Durban, and on Travelmax from Lanseria northern Johannesburg.

An inter-island light aircraft connects with arrivals into Vilanculos to the Benguerra grass strip adjacent to the resort, with a flying time of 10 minutes. Alternatively you can transfer from Vilanculos by speedboat in 20-30 minutes.
